Description
Vigna Cataratte is a wine you seek, not one you happen to stumble into. The clay and marl soils at this particular vineyard site, which is 300 meters above sea level, produce grapes with remarkable depth that are used to make this Riserva Aglianico del Taburno DOCG.
Harvested by hand at the end of October, the fruit is vinified slowly, fermented for 15 days to extract flavor, and then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. The outcome? An intensely fragrant wine with a deep structure.
The nose is a heady blend of black berries, forest floor, and old leather-bound books, and its garnet color suggests age. It has layers of dried cherry, cedar, and mineral depth on the palate, along with refined tannins that are both forceful and elegant.
This wine, which received 94 points from Veronelli and a 3 Stelle+ rating, is suitable for cellaring or for now’s leisurely, satisfying sips. A Riserva that evokes the peaceful calm of time and old hills.
